‘Justice League’ Animated Cast Ponder Potential Reunion Film

The Justice League animated series aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004, and has been beloved by DC Comics fans and is often cited as one of the best interpretations of DC’s iconic superhero team with its impeccable take on the characters as well as the animation, atmosphere and voice acting.

Recently, the hashtag #JLReunion was prominent on Twitter after @AnimatedJL tweeted starting an awareness campaign for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment to potentially bring a new animated Justice League movie that would reunite the original voice cast.

The League roster in the cartoon included Batman/Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy), Superman/Clark Kent (George Newbern), Wonder Woman/Diana Prince (Susan Eisenberg), Green Lantern/John Stewart (Phil LaMarr), Flash/Wally West (Michael Rosenbaum), Martian Manhunter/John Jones (Carl Lumbly) and Hawkgirl/Shayera Hol (Maria Canalas-Barerra).

Some of the original voice actors have responded to the new online campaign by fans of the cartoon that would hope materialize into a reunion film for the cast:

Kevin Conroy: “I’m often at Comic-Cons across the country where I get to interact with the audience, and a frequently asked question is why there hasn’t been a Justice League animated movie based on the animated TV series. There’s a large and loyal fan base there that you’d think the studio would want to tap into. To me it’s a no-brainer.”

Susan Eisenberg: “Well, selfishly, I’d love to explore the relationship between Bruce and Diana a bit more, and I know there are some wonderbat fans out there who feel the same way. But mostly, I would just love to see a story where The League is united in its fight of good vs. evil, with some romance and levity thrown in for good measure!”

Phil LaMarr: “Your first hope is that someone will see your work, your second is that it will, in some way, endure.” “Executives tend to look for the biggest, shiniest new thing, not the best, most-loved old thing — until someone proves there’s an audience for it.”

George Newbern: “There are so many fans that grew up on Justice League on Cartoon Network that seem to want to reboot some sort of movie or limited series.”

Michael Rosenbaum: “Why it was prematurely cancelled always baffled me. I’d be honored and grateful to be a part of any sort of reunion with all the beautiful people associated with this show.”

For the most part, the majority of the main voice cast would love to take part in a potential reunion film following the original cartoon as well as the follow-up, Justice League Unlimited. Hopefully, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will consider this idea and find a way to bring a great story to life that would bring the League together again as portrayed in the beloved cartoon.

Meanwhile, fans can see the live-action version of Justice League, now playing in theaters.
