‘Justice League’ Producer On ‘Aquaman’s Place In The DCEU Timeline

With Wonder Woman taking place primarily during the First World War, fans have been wondering where future DCEU projects will take place in the cinematic universes timeline. With Zack Snyder‘s Batman v. Superman revealing that several superheroes have already established themselves, the creative minds behind the DCEU have the opportunity to either explore the origins of each hero or depict the years after their respective debuts. While Aquaman‘s place in the DCEU timeline has been uncertain for some time, producer Charles Roven revealed when the film will take place during an interview with CinemaBlend.

Roven confirmed that Aquaman will be set after the events of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

“Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention.”

Roven added that while Aquaman will be set after Justice League, future projects are free to be set in many periods of the DCEU timeline.

“James [Wan] definitely knows where he’s going with [Aquaman], and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel — except for the bookends we have. So that’s where we have the most ability to freeform. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman… well not really. You can’t do a movie in between Batman v Superman and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League.”
