‘Justice League’: Henry Cavill On Introducing ‘The True Superman’

A lot of criticism has been directed toward Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe and the serious, gloomy take on Superman has been the subject of fan disapproval since the release of Man of Steel. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Henry Cavill discussed how he worked with DC Films’ Geoff Johns to create a more faithful version of Superman in Justice League.

Although Justice League opened to mixed reviews – at best – even the harshest critics noted that the film depicted a more comic-book-accurate version of the Man of Steel. Cavill explained how he worked with Johns to introduce what he describes as the “true Superman”:

“Geoff [Johns] and I have been delving into the history of the character to get to the core of who Superman is. This is the first time we see the true Superman. The Superman who is confident, and sure, and full of hope and joy.”

Of course, there are those who would say that the traditional and inspirational version of Superman is a boring character. However, I would say those individuals are incorrect – a polite way of putting it – and am looking forward to seeing a hopeful depiction of the Man of Steel in the DCEU moving forward.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Heard, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons, Connie Nielsen, Julian Lewis Jones and Ciarán Hinds.
