‘Justice League’ Scribe Chris Terrio Rewrote Latest ‘Batman’ Script

In all the fuzz surrounding Ben Affleck’s departure as director of the next Batman movie, one key piece of information seems to have gone unnoticed. According to Deadline, while the script for The Batman was initially written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns, the most recent rewrite was turned in by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League scribe Chris Terrio.

Here’s the complete quote from Deadline:

“Affleck, who most recently helmed Live by Night, wrote the script with Geoff Johns, and a rewrite was just turned in by Chris Terrio, the Oscar-winning scribe of the Affleck-directed Argo. Our sister publication Variety was first to confirm Affleck’s exit as director.”

If this all feels a little like deja vu to you that’s because it kind of is. Back in 2014, when Ben Affleck took the Batman role in Batman v Superman, he brought in Terrio to do some rewrites on the script. And although the theatrical release of the movie was poorly received by the critics, the extended cut proved to be a more cohesive and compelling version of the story.

It is also worth noting that while Terrio is more recently known for his work on Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he’s also an Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay for Argo, which also won the award for best picture the same year. So at the very least we can say that the collaboration between Affleck and Terrio has a lot of potential despite the fact that the former won’t direct the film.

What do you think of Terrio rewriting the new Batman script? Let us know in the comments below.
