‘Justice League Dark’ Director Says The Film Will Be Smaller, Different

Superhero teams are the norm when it comes to comic book movies, as most often than not, each individual hero film builds up to a team-up. Such was the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, with individual films leading up to a cathartic team-up. Doug Liman, director of the upcoming Justice Leauge Dark, doesn’t need individual stories and films to lead up to his superhero team’s films. Instead, he’s going to make a small, intimate blockbuster that doesn’t adhere to a legacy or rules that he isn’t in charge of. When speaking with Cinemablend while promoting his upcoming film The Wall, Liman had this to say.

“I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is — in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We’ve found a way to do something that’s actually really personal and small, and that’s my goal. [My new movie] The Wall is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that’s really human.”

While Liman’s confidence is great, no official release date or cast has been announced for the film. Justice League Dark has been in development for quite a while and Guillermo del Toro was championing the film since it was announced. With Liman’s The Wall hitting theaters on May 12th, it’s possible that the superhero film will be fast tracked.
