‘Justice League’ Uses The Flash To Homage The Dark Knight Returns

Justice League is ripe with visual easter eggs and a newly discovered one uses The Flash as a vessel to pay homage to The Dark Knight Returns.

Now that Justice League is out on digital HD, fans have been able to spot visual easter eggs, including one that pays homage to the classic Batman comic The Dark Knight Returns.

During the Justice League’s first encounter with Steppenwolf, The Flash trips and is electrocuted, which is a clear homage to Superman being struck by lightning. The homage was discovered by Twitter user Film Junkee, who later posted a screenshot of Zack Snyder confirming that the easter egg was an homage to the comic. You can see the thread below:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amber Heard as Mera, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf.
