‘Justice League’: Henry Cavill Says His Mustache ‘Almost Killed Superman’

Henry Cavill addressed how his infamous Mission: Impossible mustache nearly “killed” Superman in Justice League.

For his role as the nefarious CIA assassin August Walker in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Henry Cavill grew a mustache that Paramount refused to let him shave when the actor called on the film reshoots as Superman for Justice League. As a result, the Justice League team had to digitally remove Henry Cavill’s mustache in order to keep Superman clean-shaven, which yielded poor results.

During an interview on Jimmy Kimmell Live, Henry Cavill addressed the infamous mustache when asked about the possibility of returning for the next Mission: Impossible film despite his character being killed off. “You never know what’s gonna happen,” Henry Cavill replied before reminding Kimmell of the impact his mustache had on Superman in Justice League:

“I took the full force of that hook on my mustache, so… we know how powerful that is. I mean, that almost killed Superman.”

Henry Cavill’s future as Superman after Justice League is currently in doubt amid reports on contentious contract negotiations and Warner Bros. and DC planning to focus their efforts on introducing Supergirl. While his planned Superman cameo in Zachary Levi’s Shazam! was cut after negotiations to reprise his role fell through, Henry Cavill recently stated that he has not given up on playing the character.

To date, Justice League is Henry Cavill’s most recent appearance as Superman.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
