‘Justice League’: Joss Whedon May Get Co-Director Credit Below Zack Snyder

As many of you know, Zack Snyder stepped down from work on Justice League following a family tragedy and appointed Joss Whedon to finish up post-production work. According to a footnote in the new Justice League trailer, Whedon’s additions to Snyder’s big superhero crossover might actually have netted him a co-director credit.

Whedon was said to have been involved with post-production on Justice League for a while, as he was stated to be helping Snyder write new material for additional photography (and to presumably tweak some scenes for the planned reshoots). Fans took notice of the description of the latest trailer for Justice League on the UK Warner Brothers YouTube page, which explicitly listed Whedon as the second director of Snyder’s movie:

“Justice League – Official Trailer. A film by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.”

It’s worth bearing in mind that, since the film hasn’t been completely finished just yet (with some additional photography/reshoots still taking place and a full edit of the final movie currently not fully assembled), the credits are far from finalized at this point and Whedon might not get a director’s credit at all. For frame of reference, the credits on Wonder Woman shifted quite a bit before they were locked, and the Director’s Guild of America will most likely get the final say over this. Still, given that Whedon did a lot for pulling the movie into the home stretch, it’s easy to say that he does deserve credit for completing the movie – and fans of the first two Avengers movies might be a little more willing to check Justice League out if they see his name alongside Snyder’s.

Justice League unites on November 17, 2017. The superhero epic features a cast that includes Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (Batman), Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent (Superman), Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Jason Mamoa as Orin/Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash), Ray Fisher as Victor Stone (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J. K. Simmons as Commissioner James ‘Jim’ Gordon, Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone, Amber Heard as Mera, Billy Crudup as Dr. Henry Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Julian Lewis Jones and Michael McElhatton are also in the movie in unspecified roles.
