Kanan Feels Lost During ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 3

With the third season of ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ right around the corner, the showrunners have been teasing what we can expect from Kanan and his crew. Especially given that he was blinded by Darth Maul in the final episode of the last season, it’s fair to say that Kanan’s journey will not be an easy one from here on out.

“I definitely think when you start the season he’s feeling pretty lost, he has to grow into an understanding of what it means to be a Jedi, and that’s a confusing thing for him. He’s underestimating the lifelong commitment it’s going to take to these ideas that he’s practicing. After the events on Malachor that he’s faced to really deal with what it means to be more selfless and give things up.”

We do know that part of his story arc across the next season will see him go under some kind of training from a force-sensitive creature named Bendu. Supposedly Bendu can understand and manipulate the Force without being seduced by it and turning to corruption. This seems to be in line with where Kanan is personally – and how he struggles to be a teacher himself. It’s fair to say that Bendu’s teaching might flow from Kanan to Ezra at some point.

“There’s a lot up in the air for Kanan and how he’s going to come through it. What I also think is interesting is that to get him through it we needed to give him his own master, to show that you’re never really done learning, that you’re constantly going to be learning in life. You don’t just become a Jedi Master and not learn”

To say ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ is an animated series, the showrunners are approaching these characters with sheer understanding and respect. It’s not just a children’s show anymore, but an expansion of the Star Wars universe that stands brilliantly on it’s own two feet. Kanan’s story arc alone sounds genuinely fascinating and has the potential to be one of the best things about the next season.

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 3 returns on September 24th.
