Kathleen Kennedy Says ‘Star Wars’ Won’t Follow Marvel Studios Formula

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently shared that Disney does not plan on following the Marvel Studios formula when it comes to their Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars buzz is bigger and better than ever after the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker released online a month ago. Vanity Fair recently released two covers featuring both Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Within the magazine Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy talked about how Disney does not play to take the Marvel Studios approach when it comes to the future of the Star Wars franchise.

“Because it’s something that means so much to fans that you can’t turn this into some kind of factory approach. You can’t even do what Marvel does, necessarily, where you pick characters and build new franchises around those characters. This needs to evolve differently.”

Even though Marvel Studios hit gold, struck oil and found the Holy grail with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no guarantee that the same formula will work on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however it does feel on the level of Avengers: Endgame in a sense because it will supposedly be capping off a saga that began a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

What are your thoughts on Kathleen Kennedy’s comments towards Star Wars not copying Marvel? Do you believe this is the best approach or could following the Marvel Studios formula work? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Full plot details for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are currently under wraps, though the film is set to conclude the Skywalker saga before theatrically released Star Wars films takes a three-year hiatus.
