Speaking with ScreenGeek about his upcoming movie Replicas, Reeves was asked that, if it were up to him, who’d he play: Batman or Wolverine? He responded he’d love to play Wolverine:
“Of the two, I’d love to play Wolverine.”
Hugh Jackman, who played the mutant slasher for some years now, has already stated he is not considering coming back to reprise his role anytime soon — even after fellow actor Ryan Reynolds has strongly campaigned in favor of it. But with the Disney/FOX deal coming into fruition, rumors about his reappearance are growing every day.
If Jackman isn’t up for the job one more time, Reeves seems more than happy to pick up his mantle. The actor is no stranger to fast-paced action roles. His background with the Matrix franchise and the John Wick franchise are proof of Reeves capabilities what’s needed to play a high-profile mutant like Wolverine.
Nevertheless many would argue that if putting forward a new X-Men franchise maybe Disney and Marvel would look for a younger actor to potentially carry the role forward for several projects. Actor Tom Hardy, now Eddie Brock/Venom in the Sony/Marvel Studios Spider-Man Universe, has also expressed interest in playing Wolverine.
