Kendrick Lamar & SZA ‘Black Panther’ Song Won’t Be Performed At Oscars

It’s officially confirmed that Kendrick Lamar and SZA will not be performing the song “All The Stars” from Black Panther at this year’s Oscars.

Black Panther has secured a lot of Academy Award nominations this year and the Ryan Coogler-directed film is also up for Best Picture. Along with that, Black Panther has also secured a nomination in the Best Original Song category with “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. According to Variety, Kendrick Lamar and SZA will not be performing the song at the Academy Awards this year. The song will also not be performed by another act, according to the trade.

However, all the other nominated songs will be performed at the Academy Awards. The list includes “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” by Gillian Welch and David Rowlings from The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, “The Place Where Lost Things Go” by Bette Midler and Marc Shaiman from Mary Poppins Returns , “I’ll Fight” by Jennifer Hudson from RBG and “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from A Star Is Born. Queen will also be performing at the Oscars this year.

The fact that “All The Lights” from Kendrick Lamar and SZA will not be performed is odd considering every other nominated song will be performed during the Oscars. It will surely be missed in its absence as one of the performances. It would have been a real treat to see Kendrick Lamar and SZA perform the song on stage but hopefully the Academy will honor the song in a different way on the telecast.

The 91st Oscars ceremony takes place on Sunday, February 24, 2019. It will air live on ABC.
