Kevin Durand Confirmed To Play Villain In DC Universe’s ‘Swamp Thing’

Here’s a bit of follow-up for you. It was recently reported that actor Kevin Durand was merely “in talks” to join DC Universe’s Swamp Thing series as a villain. And you know how it goes. “In talks” can range from almost confirmation to actual confirmation. Or in some cases, talks break down until both sides return to the table and then seal the deal. Think Matt Reeves and The Batman or Michael Keaton and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now with Kevin Durand, we now have official, concrete confirmation that he’ll be joining the world of Swamp Thing.

Per Deadline, it’s being reported that the actor has officially signed up for the role of Jason Woodrue in Swamp Thing, which will no doubt set him down the road to eventually becoming Floronic Man in the future. And Durand is joining an ever-expanding and impressive cast lined up for the DC Universe series, including the likes of Virginia Madsen, Derek Mears, and Will Patton. In addition, here’s the description for Durand’s character:

“Prickly genius Jason Woodrue is a biogeneticist without equal and he knows it. Brought in to study the unique properties of a small-town Louisiana swamp, Woodrue becomes fixated on unlocking the potential contained within — leading to tragic and monstrous consequences.”

Hopefully this Woodrue is better presented than the one we got in Batman & Robin. Plus, Kevin Durand himself is no stranger to comic book adaptations, as you may remember him as the Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though at least this time, he won’t have any mutant powers or have to deal with Logan pointing his sharp claws in his face. But now with official confirmation, the plans for DC Universe’s Swamp Thing series continue to come into form. And with Durand’s official confirmation, who would you hope to see join the series?

As of now, we know that Swamp Thing won’t have any connections to the likes of Titans and Doom Patrol. Would you, if possible, want to see these worlds cross paths if possible? Or would you prefer that Swamp Thing merely stand on its own with no possible ability to connect to the other live-action series on the platform? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Stay tuned for more updates down the line on Swamp Thing. In the meantime, you can get your DC Universe fill now with Titans, which premieres on Friday.
