While on the red carpet recently for a British awards ceremony, the Marvel Studios President was asked about the upcoming Carol Danvers solo adventure and what exactly it is that sets Captain Marvel apart from other comic book origin films. For one, it takes place in the 1990s. Okay. But in addition, unlike a lot of the purely origin tale films of the MCU we’ve seen, Carol Danvers will already have her abilities in this film, and there will be much to unveil to audiences when the film hits theaters next spring:
“It takes place in the 1990s and while it is an origin story of our hero, it is a very different type of origin story which we’re excited to unveil to audiences.”
Okay, so admittedly, that doesn’t exactly tell you what it is that sets Captain Marvel apart from the pack aside from its time period, but from Kevin Feige’s words about the cast coming together, as well as describing Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, for example, as a different take on what we’ve seen from his character in previous films, it seems that prior knowledge of some of these characters will allow Captain Marvel to feel more fleshed out and, in addition, really live within the time period in which the film is set.
Here, you can watch Kevin Feige praise Captain Marvel, its cast, the records broken, and what he believes sets it apart from other origin tales in the video below:
Based on the trailer and descriptions of the film thus far, what are your expectations for Captain Marvel? And how do you hope to see the film differentiate itself from prior MCU origin films? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
