Kevin Feige Addresses ‘Fantastic Four’ MCU Rumors

With the successful introduction of Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it has been rumored that perhaps some other superheroes might find their way back home too. After all, when looking at the box office numbers of the MCU, it would seem like a no brainer for rival studios to want to get in on the success. If anyone could make that happen, it would be Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who of course was able to negotiate a deal to share the web-slinger with Sony Pictures.

In addition to producing the successful X-Men franchise, 20th Century Fox also controls the film rights to the Fantastic Four. After the last installment bombed critically and commercially, fans would certainly love a chance to see Marvel’s First Family share the screen with Iron Man and Captain America. Speaking to Yahoo Movies at D23, Feige however put rumors of any imminent deal to rest:

“I’ve been at Marvel for 17 years… There are certainly no plans whatsoever for that. But too many amazing things have happened over the past 17 years for me ever say never. But for now, nothing.”

Certainly Feige does not seem optimistic of any deal being struck with 20th Century Fox for the moment. Ever the optimist, Feige did also note that anything is possible:

“There’s a chance that aliens could come down from the sky right now, and we’ll use them in the movie in to save money on visual effects.”

Marvel does seem open to collaborating with other studios at this time, with Sony currently planning on launching it’s own Spider-Man movie universe. Should 20th Century Fox change their mind and decide to play ball with Marvel, Feige can most assuredly be counted on to integrate any new characters in the MCU in a fan-pleasing way.
