Last year, Netflix began canceling their Marvel not too long after their respective seasons debuted on the streaming service. By February, Netflix finished things off, canceling both The Punisher and Jessica Jones together, effectively ending the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To make matters even worse, Marvel’s street-level heroes featured on Netflix can’t appear in any non-Netflix television show or film for at least two years after their cancellation, raising the question as to whether or not the shows will get a revival on either Disney+ or Hulu, or if we’ll see them crossover to the big screen instead.
When speaking to BET, Marvel Studios president was asked about which of The Defenders he’d like to see in a film first when he admitted he has no idea at the moment:
“I don’t know. There were a lot of great characters that were on those Netflix series, and I think there is a period of time…it’ll be a while before we could use any of them based on what the contracts were, so I’m not sure. And also, even answering that question is a spoiler. But there are some great Marvel characters there.”
It seems that for now, Netflix’s corner of the MCU will stay wrapped up with the final season of Jessica Jones which is currently available to stream.
When Jessica (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down. But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter, Rachel Taylor, Eka Darville, Benjamin Walker, Jeremy Bobb, Sarita Choudhury, Tiffany Mack, Jessica Frances Dukes, Aneesh Sheth, Rebecca DeMornay, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
