On the red carpet at the Golden Globes last night, Kevin Feige was asked a series of questions, most of which revolve around his work at Marvel Studios. The final question dealt with James Gunn’s move to the DC Extended Universe with Suicide Squad 2 and what this could possibly mean for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. But Feige maintained that the third installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga will come when it’s time. When that time is, that remains to be seen:
“I see cool films being made and one thing you know about James Gunn — he makes cool films. Guardians will happen. When, where, how, for a later time.”
Here, have a look at Feige discussing the third Guardians film in the video below at the 3:48 mark.
Okay, okay, I get it. That’s more of a non-answer than anything. After all, given how James Gunn was originally going to craft out the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it remains to be seen what will happen there. It’s entirely possible that the likes of Captain Marvel and the upcoming Eternals film could build out that world. Coupled with what intergalactic characters could come from the Fox/Marvel side and the cosmic side could be fine for the moment, but the Guardians of the Galaxy do remain in a sort of limbo at the moment.
Still, there are some who would like to see James Gunn return to the Guardians of the Galaxy films, if the hashtag #RehireJamesGunn is any indication. Where do you stand, though? When do you believe the third Guardians of the Galaxy film will ultimately happen? Who do you think will be in the director’s chair? Do you hope to see Gunn return in some capacity? Let us know in the comments below.
In the meantime, look forward to seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy make their comeback in Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
