Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On James Gunn’s Move To DC

James Gunn may no longer be a part of either the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is cheering for the director as he sets his sights on the DC Extended Universe.

Last night at the Golden Globes, Kevin Feige was asked a series of questions, and among the final ones was his thoughts on James Gunn making the move from Marvel to DC. Though James Gunn is now behind the second Suicide Squad film, Feige is confident that Gunn will deliver. More than that, as indicated by Feige’s recent remarks on Aquaman, the Marvel Studios President sees no rivalry at all. Here are Feige’s thoughts based on a recent interview with Josh Horowitz at MTV News:

“I went to see Aquaman last night and I really really enjoyed it. And you know me, I don’t see a rivalry — I see cool films being made. And one thing you know about James Gunn, he makes cool films.”

So right now, the move from one studio to another doesn’t seem to be a deterrent at all for Kevin Feige. If anything, he’s happy for his colleague that he will get to make, as he pointed out, a cool movie within the DC Extended Universe. As is often the case, the folks behind the films don’t seem to see it as much of a rivalry as those in fandom on all sides do.

That said, there are still many who hold out hope that either Marvel Studios or Disney will ultimately bring back James Gunn, if the hashtag #RehireJamesGunn is any indication. But right now, Gunn is gunning for DC and Kevin Feige is perfectly fine with that. What do you think about Feige’s words on Gunn? Let us know your thoughts on the comments below and stay tuned for more developments on James Gunn’s next DC project, Suicide Squad 2.
