After Marvel Studios decided to part ways with James Gunn over some of his controversial tweets made years before his employment, the MCU was perceived as being in a state of disarray.
Movie fans, as well as colleagues, sparked an uproar to get James Gunn reinstated as the director of the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Dave Bautista who is known to some fans as Drax the Destroyer even went as far as implying he’ll leave the franchise if the script written James Gunn is not used.
All efforts resulted in the same outcome however and James Gunn remains to excommunicated from the MCU. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently sat down with CinemaBlend to talk about James Gunn and his influence over the MCU.
Kevin Feige confirmed that James Gunn’s script will be used for the third installment of the Guardians franchise and that James Gunn’s influence was primarily with the Guardians themselves. He mentioned that among the online community there was a notion that James Gunn was a sort of the “architect” for all of Marvel’s cosmic properties which he said was “slightly blown out of proportion.”:
“His influence was Guardians. It was Guardians. It was his input on Guardians and the Avengers films, as you’ve seen in Infinity War, and on the Guardians 3 script, which we’re still using. So you’ll see that influence. I think online, sort of the notion of ‘architect across multiple cosmic things’ was slightly blown out of proportion.”
It was well speculated that James Gunn would help oversee The Eternals when and if Captain Marvel was as successful as they envisioned the film to be. We now know that is not the case.
