As President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige has a full plate that doesn’t seem to be getting any emptier anytime soon. However, the movie producer gave credit where credit is due when he discussed Stan Lee’s legacy, influence, and how future Marvel films will move on now that there are fewer, if at all, opportunities for the infamous Stan Lee cameos.
In a recent interview on the Playback Podcast with Variety, Kevin Feige stated that he never thought the day would come that Stan Lee would no longer be in the land of the living. But the Marvel Studios president praised Lee’s work. He acknowledged that he was not around for every Stan Lee cameo, going as far back as the first X-Men film, but the legend’s influence will never fade away. Here are Feige’s words below:
“I was there not for every one but for almost every cameo he’s ever shot going back to ‘X-Men.’ He was very special. I’ve never heard one story of somebody meeting Stan and not being overwhelmed with excitement. He never disappointed. In some ways I never thought this day would come. Kirk Douglas just turned 102. I thought Stan was going to be there. And in the same way it doesn’t seem like he’s gone. His influence will never go away.”
Indeed, it’s been mentioned in the past that Marvel Studios had filmed several pre-recorded cameos for Stan Lee. It remains to be seen how they will be utilized after Spider-Man: Far From Home next year, though. However, as Feige indicated, Stan Lee left behind a massive legacy that will no doubt endure for years to come.
How do you believe Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios will handle the lack of Stan Lee in their future films going forward? Are you prepared for the moment when there will no longer be Stan Lee cameos in upcoming Marvel projects? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
The next Marvel Studios project, Captain Marvel, will hit theaters on March 6, 2019. In the meantime, you can see Stan Lee on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters now.
