As soon as any superhero movie remotely underwhelms at the box office or does not rake in Avengers numbers, the internet is suddenly ablaze with rampant speculation that superhero fatigue must be setting in. If you are not familiar with superhero fatigue, it basically concludes that moviegoing audiences are getting sick and tired of seeing all these superhero films all the time. However, the Big Cheese over at Marvel Studios does not buy into it.
In speaking with Variety, Kevin Feige said the following:
“Not only has there not been the quote-unquote superhero fatigue that people have been asking me about since years before ‘Iron Man,’ but here we are having our biggest year ever.”
Feige continued:
“Our instincts have always guided us, and the successes have always just encouraged us to keep following those instincts.”
And indeed Marvel is having their biggest year ever, thanks to the wild successes that were Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. The pair makes up the two highest-grossing films of 2018, domestically speaking, and together they have totaled a staggering $3.5 billion worldwide and counting.
Marvel Studios is poised to have another super year at the box office, with a highly-anticipated trio of films in Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home to look forward to.
So what do you think? Do you agree with Kevin Feige or is there such a thing as superhero fatigue? And will Marvel have an even better year this year than they did in 2018? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
