While at the Golden Globes, Kevin Feige discussed a variety of topics, but one that came up was what the future of Marvel Studios would be once Walt Disney’s acquisition of Fox is complete. To Feige, it’s not just about the big-name characters, but the fact that this might be the closest Marvel will have to accessing that catalog of characters and names:
“The truth is I’m excited for all of them. And it’s not just the marquee names, you know. There are hundreds of names on those agreements and the fact that Marvel is as close as we may ever get now to having access to all of the characters is something I’ve been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel. It’s very exciting.”
Here, you can watch Kevin Feige discuss Fox’s Marvel characters in the video below at the 3:04 mark.
It remains to be seen what the future will indeed look like not just for the MCU, but Fox’s Marvel projects as a whole after Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants hit theaters this year. What about other projects like Drew Goddard’s X-Force or Gambit or Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom film, just to name a few? Do they continue and are just folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Do the properties live on in the MCU as a way to establish a multiverse? And do creative forces like Lauren Shuler Donner, Noah Hawley, Simon Kinberg, Matt Nix, Ryan Reynolds and Josh Boone, remain? The fact is no one seems to know the answer to that part, but for Kevin Feige, whose work dates back to the first X-Men film alongside Donner, the possibilities appear to be endless. What do you think of the upcoming merger between the two companies? Furthermore, what do you think this means for the entertainment industry moving forward?
