Kevin Smith On Board With Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker

In a recent episode of the Batman Beyond podcast, Kevin Smith seemed to be on board with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker.

During this appearance, Kevin Smith expressed his admiration for Joaquin Phoenix and being on board for solo films featuring the Clown Prince of Crime. He also seemed to think that Jared Leto’s Joker was going to fade out based on the route of this latest film:

He’s a great actor. I’ll watch him do anything. Seeing him take on this role, I’ve been curious from the jump. But I’m also of the belief that you could make a bunch of these. You could make six Joker movies, I’ll see all of them. Half of them will probably be really good. So, you know, they’re not planning that, but they were talking about making this one and the Jared Leto one. It feels like the Jared Leto one quietly goes away, based on this one.

From the sound of things, Silent Bob wants to see a lot more of The Joker, even if the films aren’t great.

What do you all make of the solo Joker film? Do you agree with Kevin Smith? Should they make half a dozen of these films? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is the plot synopsis for the film:

‘Joker’ centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
