Kevin Smith has almost become just as well-known for this passion for comic books than his filmmaking. Nonetheless, it was announced last week Marvel was developing a Howard the Duck animated series for Hulu, and Kevin Smith is on board to write and executive produce. Kevin Smith shared his excitement for the upcoming series and teased a possible return of Lea Thompson in a recent Instagram post:
Lea Thompson starred in the 1986 film produced by Star Wars creator George Lucas. Howard the Duck is remembered for being both a critical and financial disaster. Howard the Duck’s rights were tied up with Lucasfilm until Disney’s blockbuster deal to acquire the studio in 2012. Since the rights have finally reverted back to Marvel Studios, the character has since made brief Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances in both entires of the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, voiced by Robot Chicken‘s Seth Green.
The Howard the Duck series is apart of Hulu and Marvel’s four-show animated slate which also includes MODOK, Hit-Monkey,Tigra & Dazzler Show, which will all culminate in The Offenders crossover.
