Kevin Smith Compares The Visual Effects Of ‘The Flash’ & ‘Arrow’

Director Kevin Smith is no stranger to The CW‘s Arrowverse, having helmed two episodes of both The Flash and Supergirl. While the fan-favorite filmmaker has yet to direct an episode of Arrow, he is evidently well aware that working on the series would be a different type of experience. Now, Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a portion of a featurette that will be included on the home video release of The Flash: The Complete Third Season and Supergirl: The Complete Second where Smith compares the visual effects of all three CW superhero shows.

Joining executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a discussion on how talent from one series often moves on to another, Kevin Smith noted the obvious difference between Arrow and the rest of the Arrowverse.

“Arrow seems of a different feather than Supergirl and The Flash, not the least of which is like, they’ve got superpowers and this guy has just got a bow and arrow.”

Explaining that while the Arrow’s fired by Oliver Queen are created digitally, the effects budget for show is significantly smaller than the budget for The Flash and Supergirl.

“The visual effects budget of Arrow is literally a tenth [of Supergirl and The Flash].”

Kreisberg added that series is also different in that it features more practical action effects.

“It’s a lot of stunt-work. It’s all practical by design.”

The Flash: The Complete Third Season will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 5, 2017.

Supergirl: The Complete Second Season will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 22 , 2017.
