‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Writer Says Sequel Is ‘Pretty Crazy’

In an interview with Collider, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" writer Jane Goldman says that the sequel, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," will be "more crazy."

Adapted from Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel, “The Secret Service,” Matthew Vaughn‘s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” was early 2015’s sleeper hit. By simultaneously being a tribute and parody to other spy thrillers, including the Jason Bourne and James Bond franchises, “Kingsman” was able to make over $400 million worldwide and earn itself a sequel, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

In an interview with Collider, “Kingsman” writer Jane Goldman gives us an idea of what to expected from “The Golden Circle:”

“It’s more crazy than the first one, if such a thing is possible, it’s pretty crazy… We’re very fortunate to have Julianne Moore playing the villain, and she’s incredible… I think that people who enjoyed the first one won’t be disappointed. It’s not about trying to do something more shocking, or more out there, it’s about that freshness and surprise to action scenes, so they don’t go in the direction you think they’re going in.”

It’s refreshing to see that Goldman and returning director Vaughn are planning to take the franchise in a more planned and articulated direction instead of trying to one-up the original. Currently in post-production, “The Golden Circle” will bring back actors Taron Egerton and Mark Strong and bring in new cast members like Moore, Halley Berry, Pedro Pascal, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is slated for a summer 2017 release.
