Kit Harington Seemingly Confirms That He Becomes The Black Knight In ‘The Eternals’

The Eternals star Kit Harington suggests that his character Dane Whitman will become the Black Knight in the film.

Speaking as a guest at the NEXT Conference, Kit Harington took a moment out of the discussion to hype up his involvement in The Eternals, which is still early enough into filming, so he can’t talk about it much. He did strongly imply that his character Dane Whitman will become the Black Knight, dispelling concerns that he wouldn’t suit up in the film. Kit Harington sounded interested in saying more about his role as the Black Knight, but he wasn’t going to risk doing so since Marvel Studios want him to be tight-lipped on The Eternals for now:

“Now I’m going with a Marvel movie [in The Eternals]. I’m going on to play a superhero, which is cool. I don’t know what I can say about it, I’m scared to sort of even mention it… I’m trying to choose things as far away from Jon Snow as possible, but I’m playing a superhero and he’s got a sword.”

You can see Kit Harington’s remarks about playing the Black Knight in the clip below:

Kit Harington’s desire to distance his likely Black Knight role from Jon Snow certainly appears to be interesting, as he has not seen breakout success in live-action projects aside from Game of Thrones in spite of the show’s popularity. (Kit Harington did lend his voice to two successful How to Train Your Dragon sequels, however.) With Marvel’s consistent success at the box office, Kit Harington has certainly made a smart career choice, since he will likely be involved as the Black Knight for years to come — whether he’s the character from his first MCU appearance, or if it’s saved for another film altogether.

Plot details for The Eternals remain under wraps, however, the story reportedly features a love story between Sersi and the Black Knight. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the Celestials over a million years ago. The beings who possess superpowers and longer lifespans were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of fellow divergent races such as the Deviants (hideous monsters of human origin who are ancestors to the Atlanteans), and Latents (the predecessors to the Mutants and Mutates that make up many of Marvel’s superheroes).

The cast of The Eternals includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as the Black Knight, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig. Reportedly, there are some key roles that have yet to be revealed to the public, leaving room for Dan Stevens to possibly have a part. Marvel Studios has tapped Chloe Zhao to direct the project from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.

The Eternals is set to be released on November 6, 2020. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news regarding Kit Harington, The Eternals and the future of the MCU!
