‘Krypton’ Series To Examine Role Of Religion On Planet

The upcoming series Krypton will feature a thriving planet, and for the first time, we will see how religion plays a role in Kryptonian society.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, showrunner Cameron Welsh discussed how religion feeds into the lives of Kryptonians and ultimately plays a role in the demise of the planet. Check out the quote below:

“The world of Kandor in our show is a theocracy, and the religious guild is very powerful. The political landscape is turbulent; there’s a very rigid class divide, and there’s the rankles district, and there’s the guided area — that’s the science guild, the religious guild, the House of Zod or the House of El. There’s a class divide and a big part of that class divide is religion.”

Fans will also be happy to know that Raoism will continue to be featured as the official religion of Krypton as it always has.

There has never been any in-depth discussion on religion in any other live-action Superman films or television shows prior to this series. Seeing how it all fits together will certainly be exciting to watch. In the meantime, check out the synopsis for the show below:

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, “The Halcyon”) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, KRYPTON is from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Dark Knight” trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (“Sleepy Hollow”) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

Krypton stars Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.

Krypton will debut on SyFy in 2018.
