‘Krypton’ TV Series Will Feature Brainiac, Doomsday, Adam Strange & Hawkwoman

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics’ Geoff Johns revealed that SyFy’s upcoming Krypton will feature Brainiac, Doomsday, Adam Strange, and Hawkwoman, despite being set in the past. And lucky for us, The Hollywood Reporter was in the room to let us know exactly what went down.

While that news may confuse fans, considering the fact that Krypton will be a prequel to the Superman we know, Johns revealed exactly how these contemporary characters will fit into the show’s unique universe and timeline.

“It’s a show that, although it takes place centuries ago on Krypton about the House of El, it’s about a conspiracy from the present that has traveled back in time to Krypton to prevent Superman’s legacy from ever happening,”

This is definitely a unique take on the premise, as many assumed that the show would solely focus on the origins of Superman’s home planet.

“Adam Strange and Hawkwoman come to Krypton trying to stop the conspiracy and save Superman’s legacy. Doomsday will be in the show. Brainiac is long overdue to be on screen like that.”

While Johns’ statements are vague, we can assume that in the present day, Superman is either dead or soon to be.

Johns made it clear right from the get go that Krypton is set in its own, unique universe, meaning that it won’t crossover with other DC TV shows or the DCEU.

Showrunner Damian Kindler also went on to discuss Brainiac and what interested them about the character.

“He has a really deep, rich history. He is the nexus point between man and machine, which is an incredibly real thing to talk about now.”

Cameron Welsh, the other showrunner, also took a moment to decide the elephant in the room: how the past and present collide.

“It changes the stakes of the show completely…. It’s not a look backwards. It’s quite unique. It allows us to deepen and expand upon the known mythology.”

Krypton will debut on SyFy in 2018.
