Kyle Chandler Joins ‘Godzilla: King Of The Monsters’

Kyle Chandler has joined the cast of Legendary's Godzilla: King of Monsters.

Variety is reporting that Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) has joined the cast of Legendary’s Godzilla: King of Monsters. Chandler joins the recently cast Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in the sequel and will reportedly play her character’s father.

It was announced last month that Krampus director Michael Dougherty will helm King of Monsters from a script that he wrote with his Krampus co-writer Zach Shields. While Rogue One director Gareth Edward’s installment starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe, Variety’s sources say that Watanabe is the only actor that is expected to return for the 2019 sequel.

While little else is known about the plot of the sequel, what we do know is that this film is part of Warner Bros. and Legendary’s cinematic universe that is being referred to as the MonsterVerse, which features both Godzilla and King Kong films. Following the 2014 installment, the MonsterVerse continues in next month’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s King of Monsters before culminating in the 2020 film Godzilla vs. Kong. As of 2015, all films in the MonsterVerse will be produced by Legendary and distributed by Warner Bros.

I’m a big fan of giant monster movies and I quite liked the 2014 Godzilla, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what Dougherty and company have to offer with the sequel. The cast that has been announced so far has definitely helped increase my excitement. But above all else, I’m really excited to see this MonsterVerse build to it’s ultimate showdown between Godzilla and King Kong. 2020 can’t come soon enough!

Godzilla: King of Monsters is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2019. Godzilla vs. Kong is slated for a May 29, 2020 release.
