Yes, you read that right folks. A movie theater in Montreal traumatized children at a screening by accidentally playing The Curse of La Llorona during what it should have been a showing for Pokemon Detective Pikachu. Ryan George from Screen Rant was at the screening and realized something was wrong when they started to show a trailer for Annabelle Comes Home; a fairly odd trailer to be featured before a Pokemon movie:
After reporting that children had begun crying in the theater, the trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie was shown next and to make matters even worse, the previews concluded by introducing the young audience to Chucky in the new for Child’s Play:
Finally, to top it off the kids watched the first few moments of The Curse of La Llorona before it was shut off:
The audience was eventually moved to another theater and to view Pokemon Detective Pikachu. Nevertheless, they were traumatized by two upcoming horror films, one creepy Joker and several scenes from a ghost that will cry at night and eventually steal them away from their parents. Needless to say, it was a very long night for these kids’ parents.
Here is the plot synopsis for Pokemon Detective Pikachu:
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
Directed by Rob Letterman from a script he co-wrote with Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit, Derek Connolly, and Nicole Perlman, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular pocket monster, Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu is in theaters everywhere.
