Lana Condor Explains Jubilee’s Absence In ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’

You would think that an X-Men film set in the 1990s would be ripe for Jubilee. But as indicated by the trailers and various synopses, as far as we can tell, Lana Condor’s Jubilee is nowhere to be seen in Dark Phoenix. However, there is a reason for that.

Lana Condor’s star has continued to shine brighter before and even after she came onto the screen in X-Men: Apocalypse. She gained even more acclaim in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and will soon be in SyFy’s Deadly Class. In a recent interview with Collider, Lana Condor discussed a variety of topics in her career. While she enjoyed her time with the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, the reason she couldn’t return for Dark Phoenix is quite simple: she was busy at the time.

“No, I didn’t end up doing Dark Phoenix ‘cause I was doing To All the Boys.”

At the very least, it’s nice to know that Lana Condor probably could’ve returned, but she already had a prior engagement. Though it is unfortunate, given how Condor’s Jubilee was received in Apocalypse. Admittedly, while Jubilee wasn’t exactly part of the X-Men at that point, she did get far more to do compared to prior iterations seen in previous X-Men films. When you factor in the marketing and the deleted mall scene, Condor’s Jubilee had more visibility and she practically walked right out of a comic book.

But as is often the case for actors, juggling multiple projects and priorities is tricky. It seems like there might have been time for Lana Condor to return for Dark Phoenix were she not already doing another project. But at the same time, she’s left her mark on the X-Men franchise and did express hope to return to that family.
