Lashana Lynch Says ‘No Time To Die’ Fixes Female James Bond Characters

'No Time To Die' won't just use women as damsels in distress or femme fatales.

No Time To Die star Lashana Lynch says the upcoming James Bond film fixes the franchise’s trend of stereotypical portrayals of women.

It’s fair to say that many of the women in the James Bond franchise have either been either a macguffin leading the legendary spy to a specific plot point, a femme fatale or just an object of 007’s desires. Very rarely are they characterized in a way that makes them fully functioning, three-dimensional characters. But according to No Time To Die star Lashana Lynch, the latest film rectifies the long-running stereotypes.

Lashana Lynch’s point echoes what fellow No Time To Die star Lea Seydoux mentioned back in April when she explained that the female characters aren’t there to satisfy James Bond. Lynch’s role in the film will flip the generic stereotypes, as from the first footage we’ve seen so far she’s arguably more capable than the spy himself (she jokes about shooting him in the one knee that works properly, remember?). The actress explained to TechRadar that it comes with a sense of empowerment in the film, which is incredibly important for the younger generation.

“I think with women’s current agency, [it’s] the way in which they view themselves and the way in which they portray themselves as being – with the women that I’ve been in contact with – completely authentic and completely knowing that they’re enough. You see that oozing through the characters in this, both the female characters that have [already] existed within the franchise, and the brand new ones like myself. You just have this whole sense of empowerment that is really important to feel when you’re going to work, but also important to show younger generations coming up.”

Here is the official synopsis for Daniel Craig’s James Bond in No Time to Die:
