Warner Bros. Reportedly Looking To Cast Young Morpheus In ‘The Matrix 4’

The Matrix 4 is officially happening with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss set to return, but it seems Warner Bros. may not be bringing back Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus for the fourth film in the franchise.

Warner Bros. has announced that The Matrix 4 is moving forward with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss are set to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively, but whether or not Laurence Fishburne will return as Morpheus is still unknown as the actor was noticeably left out of the studio’s announcement. And now we might know why.

According to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, Warner Bros. may be looking to cast a young version of Morpheus in the film which could allude to where in the timeline the fourth Matrix will take place.

So what do you think? Do you want to see Laurence Fishburne reunite with his Matrix co-stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss? Will you be disappointed if he doesn’t? Let us know in the comments below!

The Matrix co-creator Lana Wachowski is set to return to write, direct, and produce a fourth installment for the franchise. Wachowski has written the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel. In addition, Wachowski will also produce the film with Grant Hill. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. The Matrix 4 will reportedly begin filming in early 2020.

The Matrix and its two sequels The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions collectively managed to earn $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. All three installments starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne.

Special 20th-anniversary screenings for The Matrix are being held at select AMC Theaters in the United States beginning August 30.
