Entertainment Weekly has just revealed the ratings of the latest episode in the series, “The Spoils of War”, has managed to amass 10.2M viewers, edging out the previous record of 10.1M viewers for the season premiere, “Dragonstone”.
The ratings surge happened in spite of recent leaks affecting HBO and Game of Thrones in particular, which resulted in the episode making its way online a day early. However, this proved to be a blessing in disguise, as positive social media trends based on those who saw the episode early indicate that good word-of-mouth on the episode led to increased viewership.
In any case, the episode featured one of the best action sequences of the series and has rightfully earned its place as the highest-rated episode of Game of Thrones… At least for now.
Game of Thrones Season 7 airs on Sundays. The series stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish, Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, Hannah Murray as Gilly.
