Okay, if you want to get technical, Pokémon Red and Green kicked things off in Japan. But yes, according to We Got This Covered, the plan is to take the basis of those two games and flesh things out with a combination of CGI and live-action, similar to what you’re seeing in the trailers for Detective Pikachu. In fact, this is rumored to take place within the same world of the upcoming Pokémon film, but only have a few passing references to that movie.
Now again, this is all rumor territory, so take it with a massive grain of Smelling Salt- if you’re into Pokémon X and Y, anyway- until something official comes out. But until then, the idea of bringing the first Pokémon titles to the big screen could be interesting. In particular, if the films are told from the perspectives of Red and Blue, who are a huge step above the likes of Ash Ketchum.
If this is indeed in the cards, though, how far could Legendary take the series? Could we end up going to Johto and beyond? If we did get adaptations of Red and Blue, who would you want to see in the role of the protagonists? Would you want the potential Pokémon films to stick to the game canon or do you want to see elements from the anime incorporated into the films? Plus, how closely would you want the films to be tied to Detective Pikachu? Let us know your thoughts on this and more in the comments below.
In the meantime, stay tuned for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which will hit theaters on May 10, 2019.
