‘Legends Of Tomorrow’: EP Teases New Characters In Season 3

DC's Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil Klemmer confirms that we'll be seeing new characters joining the team next season.

While all of The CW’s DC Comics-based superhero series feature strong support teams that back up each shows’ lead hero, Legends of Tomorrow is the only true superhero ensemble show amongst them. One of the best parts about team-based stories like this is the ability to swap new characters in and out to keep things fresh. We saw this occur between Seasons 1 and 2 of Legends, and now we’ve got confirmation that the plan will remain the same for Season 3.

In an interview with CBR at Paleyfest LA earlier this month, showrunner Phil Klemmer commented on their Season 3 plans:

“We haven’t fully pitched it, but we’ve got great ideas, and hopefully the studio and network agree. But so much of the show is working well this year. You just want to play to your strengths, and keep having fun.”

As Season 1 ended, we saw the going of Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Ciara Renee’s Hawkgirl and Falk Hentshel’s Hawkman, and the coming of Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ Vixen and Nick Zano’s Citizen Steel in Season 2. Klemmer spoke about plans for a similar approach next season:

“Season one, the pilot sends you on this course. It’s like an ocean tanker — you’re not able to just flip it around. So what really helps is being able to do a clean restart. That’s something we intend to do next season, because it worked so well this past season. We added two new characters, we had two characters that sort of fell out of our orbit — obviously Wentworth [Miller] has fallen back into our orbit. That’s the wonderful thing about this show. The only thing that has to remain is the Waverider. It’s a time travel show, so the only thing that’s not going to change is that it always changes.”

Alright, speculation time. It seems pretty obvious that Vixen will be taking off after this season. Also, with Rip Hunter back, Nate Heywood’s place on the team is also up in the air. Who needs a historian when you’ve got a former time master who not only knows all about history but the future as well? Mick Rory is another question mark at the moment. He could still redeem himself after betraying the team last week or he and Snart could remain on the dark side after Season 2 concludes.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Tuesday nights at 9/8c on The CW, following The Flash. Be sure to check back on Heroic Hollywood tonight for our review of tonight’s episode, “Doomworld.”

Who do you think will be leaving the team this season? What DC character would you like to see join the team next season? Let us know in the comments below.
