Following the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher, a new report believes the Star Wars actress has a bigger role in Episode VIII. Hit the jump for details.
“For Episode VIII, Leia had a larger role, we’re told, and her daughter, Billie Lourd also is in that film as well as in Force Awakens. How Lucasfilm will deal with the loss of one of the most beloved female characters in any franchise is not known, however, and the company is remaining mum.”
Of course, Lourd appeared in The Force Awakens alongside her Mother as Lieutenant Connix. Fisher had already completed filming for Episode VIII before her untimely death. According to IndieWire, Fisher’s death also comes days after commissioning another Wishful Drinking. The actress’ autobiographical, one-woman play, Wishful Drinking, enjoyed solid reviews and a brief stint on Broadway back in 2009. Fisher was developing a follow-up, titled, Wishful Drinking Strikes Back: From Star Wars to, uh, Star Wars! Many believe this would have tackled her life leading up to The Force Awakens.
The Geffen Playhouse released a statement regarding her passing:
“All of us at the Geffen Playhouse are devastated by the news of the passing of our dear friend and alum, Carrie Fisher. She was a wickedly funny force of nature and it was a privilege and a pleasure to have her on our stage. We send our love to her family and friends as we all mourn this tremendous loss.”
It is one of the darkest days for Star Wars fans all over the world. A true hero has been lost. I strongly urge you to send your thoughts and prayers to Fisher’s family and friends. The force will forever be strong with this one.
