Lewis Tan Cast As Undisclosed Character In ‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot

The Hollywood Reporter has learned Lewis Tan is joining the cast of the Mortal Kombat reboot in an undisclosed role.

The Mortal Kombat franchise is set to return to the big screen with a feature film reboot and now the upcoming film has cast three lead roles. While details on his role are currently under wraps, Deadpool 2 star Lewis Tan is in final negotiations to portray a lead character.

Lewis Tan will join The Meg star Jessica McNamee, who is final negotiations to play Sonya Blade, while Josh Lawson has closed a deal to portray Kano. In the video games, Sonya Blade is a general of Earthrealm Special Forces and she has a long-standing feud with Black Dragon clan member Kano.

In addition to his role as Shatterstar in Deadpool 2, Lewis Tan’s film credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Hangover Part III. On the television side, Lewis Tan has starred in Wu Assassins, Into the Badlands, Iron Fist, and Mortal Kombat X: Generations as Kung Jin.

The Mortal Kombat franchise launched with the first video game in 1992 and has since expanded to include several sequels. Plot details for the new Mortal Kombat film are currently unknown, though the video games center on a roster of character from different realm who fight for supremacy.

The video game was first adapted into a Mortal Kombat feature film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The film earned a worldwide total of $122 million and is widely regarded as one of the better adaptations of a video game.

Written by Greg Russo, Mortal Kombat also stars Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax,  Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer Mileena, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero.
