‘Lion King’ Director Jon Favreau Declares His Film Is Not Animated

Jon Favreau director of Disney’s The Lion King remake says that his movie should not be considered an animated film.

The highly anticipated Lion King remake is just over a month away and the hype has gotten even more elevated with the latest character posters being released from Disney. Recently, Lion King director Jon Favreau sat down with Slash Film and talked about whether or not he thought his film could be called an animated film or live-action:

“Well, it’s difficult because it’s neither, really. It depends what standard you’re using. Because there’s no real animals and there’s no real cameras and there’s not even any performance that’s being captured that’s underlying data that’s real. Everything is coming through the hands of artists. But to say it’s animated I think is misleading as far as what the expectations might be.”

Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

Directed by Jon Favreau from a script written by Jeff Nathanson, The Lion Kingstars Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

The Lion King will be released in theaters on July 19, 2019.
