Mangold has showcased some beautiful cinematography in his past filmography, and the many shots we have seen from Logan are yet another testament to his skill as a filmmaker. In fact, even in a still image, we get a taste of his directorial sensibilities. Hugh Jackman tweeted a photo from the film, captioned “Fight or Flight” depicting Logan on the run with his claws retracted .
I have no doubt that the action in Logan is going to be remarkable. Mangold has an eye for some well-crafted set pieces, and the dedication that Jackman puts into these stunts is awe-inspiring. But above anything else, the script needs to show that the stakes are higher than ever for Wolverine and Professor X. Also, with X-23 now in the mix, audiences must prepare themselves for what she has in store. For all those reasons and more, March cannot come any sooner.
James Mangold’s Logan, starring Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce, Stephen Merchant as Caliban, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney, along with Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez, opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
