In a new interview, Logan director James Mangold reveals that a deleted scene discussing Jean Grey almost made the final cut. Hit the jump for the details!
Logan director, James Mangold, has been revealing certain scenes/ideas that were left – either – on the cutting room floor, or not filmed at all. In a new interview with Empire Magazine, the filmmaker sat down and revealed an alternate conversation in one of the picture’s slower scenes. Potential spoilers ahead. Halfway through the movie, Logan, Charles and X-23 are invited to the Munson’s – a family who the three help out – house for dinner. The director originally wrote the scene with a reference to Grey, I’ll let Mangold discuss the rest:
“I sketched out different conversations for that dinner scene and one of them went to a much darker place. Mrs Munson asks Logan if he’s married, and Charles says he was – but he killed her. Of course, he wasn’t really married, but what that then spawns is Charles waxing poetic about Jean Grey, and it’s a really cool moment. Both Hugh and Patrick were amazing. The problem was, it created an incredibly powerful lead brick in the middle of the only moment in the movie where there was a breather. Even I, with my taste for the dark, felt that it was one too many. Things go pretty shitty within seconds after that.”
Oh, yes… Yes they do. Before wrapping up the interview, Mangold revealed where we will most likely see this deleted scene:
“I think [the deleted scene] will make it to the Blu-ray.”
This is the second announcement about the film’s Blu-ray in recent weeks, as Mangold also revealed that a black and white version will hit Blu-rays when it inevitably hits. In the time being, you can check out Logan which is in theatres now.
