Director James Mangold broke the news on his personal Twitter page, revealing that Logan has been given this rating for “strong brutal violence and language throughout, and for brief nudity.” See the tweet below.
As previously reported, Logan will have its world premiere at next month’s Berlin International Film Festival in an out of competition slot.
Set in the near future, Logan follows Wolverine and Professor X in a climate where mutants are no longer a big part of the world’s population. The two come across a young girl named Laura, who has similar powers to the titular character and is being hunted by an evil corporation known as Transigen.
Logan opens in theaters on March 3, 2017. The cast also features Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce, Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney/X-23, with Elizabeth Rodriguez, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal.
