For those who do not remember the events of The Avengers, Loki arrived to Earth with a new weapon ready to cause havoc. This new weapon was a scepter that contained the Mind stone of the infinity stones. A biography and report provided by Marvel has confirmed that this same scepter provided to Loki by Thanos indeed influenced his the actions. The following excerpt can be found on Marvel’s official site under Loki’s “On Screen Full Report”:
Arriving at the Sanctuary through a wormhole caused by the Bifrost, Loki met the Other, ruler of the ancient race of extraterrestrials the Chitauri, and Thanos. Offering the God of Mischief dominion over his brother’s favorite realm Earth, Thanos requested the Tesseract in return. Gifted with a Scepter that acted as a mind control device, Loki would be able to influence others. Unbeknownst to him, the Scepter was also influencing him, fueling his hatred over his brother Thor and the inhabitants of Earth.
Loki had always resented his brother Thor for the love he had for the people on Earth. The scepter helped fuel this hatred even more which could explain a lot more for many other key moments of The Avengers. There is a scene in the film, that has Mark Ruffalo’ s Bruce Banner hold the scepter and while holding it his personality had changed. If a man with good intentions like Banner was fueled with rage, then it could back up that perhaps Loki had become more mad during the events of the film.
Perhaps another viewing of The Avengers could present more details that fans may have missed during the first viewing. This detail of the character provided by Marvel could make Loki’s fate even more tragic as his actions during the destruction of New York could have been more influenced than intended. It would be interesting to see if this detail plays a part in the following Avengers film, Avengers: Endgame.
