‘Loki’ Director Reveals Marvel Series Was Inspired By ‘Teletubbies’

Eh-oh, Thor!

Loki director Kate Herron recently shared that Teletubbies served as one of the major influences on the Disney Plus series.

Marvel Studios continues to push the comic book genre into new directions. While The Falcon and The Winter Solider was like a traditional Marvel movie, WandaVision was groundbreaking since the series played out like a sitcom for most of its episodes. Loki is the next series coming to Disney Plus, and the creative team shared that the show was inspired by Blade Runner, Brazil, and Teletubbies.

Brazil and Blade Runner are incredibly influential on many pieces of modern entertainment, so to hear they inspired Loki isn’t a shocker, but the Teletubbies is a fascinating pull for a Marvel series. We recently learned of Miss Minutes in a recent Loki poster and trailer, so that may be where the Teletubbies influence comes into play, but there may be more to it. Loki director Kate Herron later teased to EW:

“You’re gonna have to wait until [the show premieres].”

What are your thoughts on Teletubbies influencing the show’s visuals? Will Loki break the third wall in the series? Let us know in the comments section below!

Here is the official synopsis for the upcoming series:

In Marvel Studios’ “Loki,” the mercurial villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Kate Herron with Michael Waldron serving as head writer, the upcoming series stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Loki will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus starting June 9. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we learn it, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more exclusive video content.
