Lord and Miller originally developed the treatment for The Flash at Warner Bros. but ultimately exited the project over creative differences before joining the Star Wars spinoff as directors. According to multiple sources close to the project, the directors met about directing the upcoming feature film adaptation of The Flash following Dope director Rick Famuyiwa’s exit from the project last year.
Robert Zemeckis (Forest Gump, Back to the Future) emerged as the frontrunner to direct the film in May and currently remains so, insiders told the trade.
The project has stalled since Famuyiwa exited the Warner Bros. production, citing creative differences between him and the studio as the reason for his departure. Famuyiwa was hired to replace Seth Grahame-Smith who penned the original script and also exited the project due to creative differences.
Both Ezra Miller and Kiersey Clemons remain committed to star as the titular hero and his love interest Iris West and fortunately, we’ll get to see Miller return as The Flash who was first introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice later this year when he appears in the epic superhero team-up flick Justice League which hits theaters November 17, 2017.
