Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Confirms Boba Fett Project Is Dead

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has officially stated that the Boba Fett movie is dead and all focus will go to The Mandalorian TV series.

At one point it was rumored that Chronicle director Josh Trank would helm a Boba Fett project until he attempted to reboot Fantastic Four. After that, there were some rumblings of Logan director James Mangold bringing a movie to life about the infamous bounty hunter. But now it seems Fett will remain where we last saw him, being digested for thousands of years in the belly of the Sarlacc Pit. It was confirmed by Kennedy that the film project is dead and all focus will be on Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian series.

This is a gut-wrenching blow to hardcore Boba Fett fans everywhere. The character was finally looking for some redemption and the ability to live up to the hype surrounding him. But now we will only remember him as the guy with the cool costume, plus for his Wilhelm scream when he fell to his doom in Return of the Jedi. But not all is lost, as The Mandalorian looks great and promises a solid slate of directors to helm each its episodes. The first live-action Star Wars series will be coming exclusively to Disney’s streamings service sometime next year.

What are your thoughts on the news that there will be no Boba Fett movie? Are you excited for The Mandalorian series? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars Universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian will debut exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct to consumer streaming service, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019.
