‘Luke Cage’ Comic-Con Panel Gets Surprise Appearance From The Punisher Himself Jon Bernthal

The lucky Comic-Con goers who got the first look at the upcoming Netflix series Luke Cage at the show’s panel yesterday got another treat – an appearance by Jon Bernthal aka Frank Castle / The Punisher.

Marvel Television head honcho Jeph Loeb, who moderated the panel, introduced the actor, who had grown his hair and beard out for a movie role he’s currently filming. After Bernthal used his Punisher stare to jokingly get Loeb to show the Luke Cage trailer again, Loeb asked him about the role, how its changed his life and how it feels to officially have his own Netflix series as the murderous vigilante.

“Look, I’ve said it before, I know how much he means to you guys. And I take that with me every day. I know how much this character matter, how much he means to members of the military, to law enforcement and I take it as an enormous responsibility and honor and I’m eternally grateful. I think that Marvel fans and comic book fans are the greatest fans in the world. Again, I can’t tell you how grateful for the feedback but Frank is in my bones now.”

The appearance was more sentimental than informative. Loeb’s questions were standard boilerplate as were Bernthal’s answers but that’s expected considering how much press actors do nowadays and how early in development they are on the Punisher series. When he got what Loeb called the “very special phone call” about the show’s pickup, Bernthal’s thoughts were: let’s get to work.

Time to get going, get it right and work, work work.
