‘Luke Cage’ SDCC 2016 – Simone Missick & Frank Whaley Discuss Misty & Scarfe’s Dynamic

We are less than two months away from the arrival of the third Marvel series on Netflix as Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, as everyone’s favorite Power Man begins his adventures in Harlem, New York, after getting introduced in Season 1 of Jessica Jones, the 2nd series in the franchise.

Last week, Heroic Hollywood participated in the Luke Cage Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con where cast and crew of the series attended to talk about what went into making this series, bringing Luke and his world to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We spoke with actors Simone Missick who portrays detective Misty Knight (a very beloved Marvel superheroine) and Frank Whaley who plays Misty’s detective partner Rafael Scarfe.

Highlights from the roundtable interview:

-How shooting in actual Harlem made filming easier as well as making the experience of being part of the show that much richer.

-Their personal superhero and comic book influence in their lives before joining this project.

-How the actors developed their relationship off-screen and fleshing out that tight dynamic the characters have as partners.

-Whether or not there was more or less pressure being the people behind the 1st modern African-American superhero series.

“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”

Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 1 will be released exclusively on Netflix on Friday, September 30.
