‘Black Panther’: Lupita Nyong’o Geeked Out Over First Trailer

Not even a week ago, we were all treated to the first Black Panther trailer. Since then, the Marvel film has roared to the top of social media chatter, and new information has continued to surface. Despite the deluge of information, Access Hollywood was able to catch up with star Lupita Nyong’o, who will play Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard, and ask her about her reaction to the first trailer.

Saying she was “geeking out” and “screaming louder than anybody else by myself in my apartment,” Nyong’o went on to elaborate on her excitement:

“I mean, it’s really exciting, and I was a part of it of course. There’s still being a lot of work done on it and we have to deliver something as good as that trailer, but that trailer was very encouraging. It’s exciting. It’s so empowering. I couldn’t help but twerk as I watched it.”

Twerking aside, Nyong’o also expressed how powerful it was to see a reflection of herself in the trailer:

“To see myself reflected back to me does something so powerful. You rise up a little, and I think we could all use that kind of representation.”

You can watch the full interview below.

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke,  Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan.

Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16, 2018.
